Google Street View, Punjab, Pakistan
Google Street View is a technology featured in Google Maps and Google Earth that provides panoramic views from positions along many streets in the world.
It was launched in 2007 in several cities in the United States, and has since expanded to include cities and rural areas worldwide. Streets with Street View imagery available are shown as blue lines on Google Maps.
In Pakistan, Google's Country Consultant, Badar Khushnood, signed an MoU with Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif, Government of Punjab in February of 2012 to do Street View Special Collects (SVSpC) of popular destinations, tourist locations and points-of-interest (PoIs) across the province.
Google Street View displays panoramas of stitched images. Most photography is done by car, but some is done by trekker, tricycle, walking, boat, snowmobile, camel, and underwater apparatus.
In Asia, Google Street View is available in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand. It is also available for a few select tourist attractions in the People's Republic of China.
After Street View execution, Google Cultural Institute Pakistan project was launched in later half of 2013.
